Looking for a one-of-a-kind experience in Montana? Look no further than Grass Valley Farms, located in the heart of Missoula. The Miller Family purchased and began operating the historic ranch, previously known as the Deschamps Ranch, in the summer of 2021. It spans over 1000 acres of fertile soil just south of the Missoula International Airport and offers a variety of products including sod, hay, beef, pork, farm fresh eggs, and more, all produced using regenerative agriculture practices.

What is Regenerative Agriculture? Regenerative agriculture is a farming technique that focuses on improving soil health, increasing biodiversity, and sequestering carbon. The farm has a microbiological soil lab on site. They also have a composting barn where they produce BioComplete, Fungal and Predator dominant compost extracts and teas, which they use to add biology to their soil as often as possible.

Cory Miller, the owner of Grass Valley Farms, has a passion for soil health and has dedicated himself to learning everything he can about it. He believes nature is full of wisdom and is constantly seeking its guidance when it comes to decisions on the farm, always striving to get as close as possible to doing what nature would do on its own.

But Grass Valley Farms is more than just a working ranch. They offer beef sales and are committed to providing the highest quality beef while preserving the natural resources that surround them. Their cattle are raised on a diet of natural grasses and are free of hormones and antibiotics, which are commonly used to promote faster growth and weight gain. The cattle are carefully monitored and cared for and graze on natural forage to provide incredible flavor, tenderness, and marbling that discriminating palates have come to expect from Montana Natural Beef.

During your stay, you can take a stroll around the farm and visit their onsite farmer’s market, where you can purchase locally grown products such as their own grass-fed beef, pork, beef jerky, delicious breakfast sausage, honey and farm fresh eggs! The farmer’s market is a great opportunity to connect with the Miller family and learn more about their approach to farming and their dedication to improving soil health. Starting May 20th and running through September 1st, soil health and composting classes are held every week starting at 8am. You can follow them on Facebook @grassvalleyfarmsmt or Instagram @grassvalleyfarms_mt
